Link in bio for TikTok

TikTok is the strictest platform in this category about who gets a clickable link, and the least helpful about explaining why yours is not working. Here is how to add one at any follower count, how to fix a link that will not become tappable, and how to track traffic that arrives in bursts and hides its own source.

The short answer

Edit profile, paste your URL into the Website field, save. If there is no Website field, switch to a Business account: it is free, reversible, and removes the follower requirement that gates the field on personal accounts. Nothing in a caption or comment is ever clickable. Then tag the URL with a UTM parameter, because TikTok's in-app browser hides the source from your analytics.

What this page says, in six lines

  • Only the profile Website field produces a clickable link on TikTok.
  • Business accounts get the website field without the follower threshold, and switching is free.
  • A link that will not turn blue is usually missing https, or in the wrong field.
  • TikTok in-app browser traffic often arrives with no referrer, so it registers as direct.
  • TikTok traffic is spiky: one video can outproduce a whole month.
  • Because it is spiky and video-driven, your top link needs to match your latest upload.

Adding the link

  1. Open your profile and tap Edit profile.
  2. Find the Website field. It sits below Bio. If it is not there, jump to the next section.
  3. Paste the full URL including https. A URL starting with just the domain is the single most common reason a TikTok link fails to become tappable.
  4. Save, then view your own profile. The link should render as a tappable row.
  5. Test it from another device or a logged-out account. Your own profile is not always a reliable preview of what visitors see.

Adding a link with fewer than 1,000 followers

TikTok has historically restricted the website field on personal accounts to accounts above a follower threshold, commonly cited as 1,000. Business accounts have not carried that restriction. So the workaround is simply to change account type.

  1. Go to Settings and privacy.
  2. Open Account.
  3. Tap Switch to Business Account.
  4. Pick the category that fits best. It affects suggested content, not your reach.
  5. Return to Edit profile. The Website field should now be available.

The sound library restriction is the one that matters, and for some creators it is a real cost: trending audio is often not commercially licensed, and the account type change can limit which sounds you can use. If your growth depends on trending audio, weigh that against the link. Many creators switch to Business, add the link, and switch back, though the field may disappear again when they do, so test rather than assume.

When the link is there but not clickable

Work through these in order. The first three account for most cases.

  1. Check the https. Paste the entire URL with the protocol. Not "yourpage.link" but "https://yourpage.link". This is the number one cause.
  2. Check which field it is in. A URL in the Bio field is plain text forever. It has to be in Website.
  3. Give it time. Profile changes can take a while to appear everywhere, and a link that looks dead five minutes after saving is often fine an hour later.
  4. Check the account age. Very new accounts are subject to more restrictions across every platform. Time fixes it.
  5. Update the app. An out-of-date client renders profile fields inconsistently, and this genuinely resolves a share of reports.
  6. Check the destination. If a domain has been flagged as spam or unsafe, a platform can decline to make it tappable. Try a different domain to isolate whether the problem is your link or your account.
  7. Check from a different account. Some display quirks only affect the logged-in owner's view of their own profile.

Tracking TikTok traffic, which also hides itself

Like Instagram, TikTok opens links in its own in-app browser, and like Instagram, that browser frequently sends no referrer. Your analytics will show a surge of direct traffic shortly after a video takes off and nothing that names TikTok.

The fix is the same and it takes ten minutes: put a UTM parameter on the URL in your profile.

  • TikTok profile: yourpage.link?utm_source=tiktok&utm_medium=bio
  • Instagram profile: yourpage.link?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=bio
  • YouTube description: yourpage.link?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=description

Use lowercase, keep the scheme identical everywhere, and write it down. Once tagged, you can finally answer the question everyone with a bio page eventually asks: which platform is actually sending the clicks, rather than which platform feels like it is. Full detail in the Instagram guide's UTM section, which applies identically here.

How TikTok traffic behaves, and why it changes your page

TikTok traffic has a distinctive shape and it has direct consequences for how you order a bio page.

It is extremely spiky

One video can produce more bio-page traffic in 48 hours than the previous month. That burst is tied to a specific video with a specific promise, and it decays fast. A page whose top link matches that video captures the burst. A page still pointing at last month's launch does not, and you cannot go back and re-serve those visitors.

It is lower intent than most sources

A TikTok visitor was watching entertainment thirty seconds ago. Compared with somebody arriving from a newsletter they subscribed to, they are earlier in every possible sense. Expect lower per-visitor conversion and higher volume, and judge the source on total outcomes rather than rate.

It is close to entirely mobile, and often on a poor connection

Page speed is not a technical detail here, it is the difference between capturing a burst and watching it bounce. Products that render everything client-side and then fetch data are noticeably worse on exactly the connections TikTok traffic arrives on.

It rewards a page that keeps up

The through line of all three points is that the correct top link on a TikTok-fed page changes every time a video lands. Doing that by hand means editing your bio page after every upload, which almost nobody sustains. Ordering by click behaviour is the same idea automated: the link this week's audience taps rises, and the one they ignore sinks, without you opening the editor. See the ordering guide for the manual version.

What to put on the page

  1. One thing at the top, matching your latest video. Not a menu. The promise you just made.
  2. Three to five links total. TikTok visitors are moving fast and a long page reads as work.
  3. Outcome labels. "Watch part 2" beats "YouTube". "Get the template" beats "Shop".
  4. An email capture somewhere. TikTok reach is entirely at the algorithm's discretion. A list is the only audience you own.
  5. No dead links. A burst of traffic hitting a broken link is the most expensive version of that mistake. See the link rot guide.

Questions people actually ask

How do I add a link to my TikTok bio?

Open your profile, tap Edit profile, and look for the Website field. Paste the full URL including https and save. If you do not see a Website field, your account type or follower count does not currently qualify, and switching to a Business account is the standard fix.

How do I add a link to my TikTok bio without 1,000 followers?

Switch to a Business account. TikTok has historically gated the website field on personal accounts behind a follower threshold, while Business accounts get it regardless of size. Go to Settings and privacy, then Account, then Switch to Business Account. The change is free and reversible.

Why is my TikTok bio link not clickable?

The most common causes are a URL missing its https prefix, a link added to the bio text instead of the Website field, a recent change that has not propagated yet, or a very new account still under review. Work through each in order before assuming your account is restricted.

Are links in TikTok captions or comments clickable?

No. Only the Website field on your profile produces a tappable link. Anything typed into a caption, a comment, or the bio text itself is plain text that a viewer would have to copy manually, which almost nobody does.

Does TikTok traffic convert well?

It converts in bursts. TikTok sends very spiky volume tied to individual videos, so a single video can produce more bio-page traffic in a day than the rest of your month combined. The visitors are usually lower intent than search or newsletter traffic, which makes the match between your latest video and your top link unusually important.

TikTok changes account requirements and menu labels regularly, and thresholds have varied by region. The flow above reflects the app in August 2026. If a menu has moved, the principle is unchanged: the Website field on the profile is the only clickable link, and Business accounts are the reliable route to it.

A page that keeps up with your posting

TikTok traffic arrives in bursts tied to individual videos. A page ordered by what people actually tap keeps the right link on top without you editing it after every upload.
